Don’t Sweat It
It took me years to switch to clean products, mainly because I had no idea where to start. There's a maze of 'DO's and DO NOT's' thrown across the internet that can leave anyone feeling overwhelmed. Use this series as a seed to sprout your journey, or at least let it spark your interest in clean beauty.
One of my first swaps way back when was deodorant, mostly because, at the time, I was working for Sephora and was gifted some cleaner alternatives. And let me tell you, I was not prepared for the detox period. Oh, yeah, P.S. You’re gonna smell worse before you smell better. You can help mitigate that by mixing up some apple cider vinegar & bentonite clay - it will help pull stuck toxins from the area.
Where were we…
Some deodorant ingredients I avoid now & why:
Aluminum zirconium tetrachlorohydrex gly - prevents sweat from leaving the body.
Fragrance - known endocrine disruptor(s), may cause skin irritation and allergies.
It's no secret that fragrance is tricky, mainly because when you see 'fragrance,' it disguises many problematic chemicals such as Benzophenone, Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), Dichloromethane, and my favorite, Formaldehyde.
If you need a clean swap and don't want to do too much research, you can snatch my current go-to deodorant from Routine. This brand has a plethora of scent profiles, from unscented to sweet, which you can shop here!
